A competition is being launched to name a new fleet of 10 waste and recycling vehicles.

The new fleet purchased by East Cambridgeshire District Council, includes new in-cab technology designed to deliver a more efficient and cost-effective waste collection service. They are also able to run on Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) as well as diesel, which is more beneficial for the environment.

Cllr Julia Huffer, chair of the council’s Operational Services Committee which oversees the waste and recycling service, said: “We want to give each of our new vehicles a name that is fitting of the task in hand.

“To get you started we think there should certainly be a Trash Gordon and a Dusty Bin in the mix.

“I am confident the residents of East Cambs will surprise us with their imagination, and hopefully we’ll get a whole ‘tip-load’ of entries.”

The winning names will be added to the front of the cabs for residents to spot as they tour the district collecting waste and recycling.

Anyone who would like to submit an entry for the competition is invited to do so on our website before Friday 15 February or write to: Name the waste lorry competition,  East Cambridgeshire District Council, The Grange, Nutholt Lane, Ely Cambridgeshire
