Latest Update 17 October 2024 - Referendum passes and plan finalised

Following a successful referendum on 12 September 2024, the Cheveley Neighbourhood Plan was formally made part of the East Cambridgeshire Development Plan on 17 October 2024.

Background

Over the past few years, Cheveley Parish Council has been preparing a draft Neighbourhood Plan for its parish area. For details on those earlier stages, please view the Cheveley Parish Council website (external link).

On 7 February 2024, Cheveley Parish Council formally submitted its draft Neighbourhood Plan to East Cambridgeshire District Council for independent examination, which included a final round of public consultation from 19 February 2024 to 8 April 2024. 

After the consultation period closed, an independent Examiner was appointed (April 2024) to examine the Plan. The examiner was Andrew Ashcroft MRTPI. On 12 June 2024, the Examiner issued his Examiner's Report (PDF, 0.3MB). The Report recommends that the plan should proceed to a local referendum.

A successful referendum took place on  12 September 2024. Having passed that referendum, the plan was considered at a meeting of Full Council on 17 October 2024 which formally acknowledged the result of the referendum and made the plan form part of the development plan for the district. The plan will now be used when planning applications are being considered.
