Producing a new Local Plan
The District Council has commenced a review of the East Cambridgeshire Core Strategy (adopted 2009). The new plan will be known as the 'East Cambridgeshire Local Plan.' It will be a single document which includes a vision for growth, strategic policies, and identifies sites for development and infrastructure provision. The review was approved by Strategic Development Committee in September 2010, and endorsed by Development and Transport Sub-Committee in June 2011. The review is taking place in response to the Government's intended abolition of top-down regional housing targets (in the Regional Spatial Strategy), and the Government's commitment to 'localism'.
The production of the Local Plan will provide an opportunity for local people to tell us how their areas should improve and change. It will enable us to get your views on housing numbers, employment growth, community priorities, potential development sites, and infrastructure and service needs. The District Council is committed to listening to the views of local people, and we will be carrying out a series of consultation in 2011/12. A live timetable can be viewed by clicking on the first bullet below.
A key objective of the review will be to produce a Village/Town Vision for all key settlements. These Visions will set out a strategy for each settlement, identify potential development sites, and look at infrastructure and service requirements. Work done on the Ely, Soham and Littleport Masterplans will be fed into the process. We will be working closely with Parish/Town Councils, as well as local people, in drawing up these Plans.
