Dealing with Pests

The Council provides advice on pest control matters to East Cambridgeshire residents. We also provide a pest control treatment service for a range of pests.

There is a charge for treatment of pests unless you are on a qualifying benefit. If you are not on a qualifying benefit the cost of the service is £60 per treatment. This cost covers the initial treatment and up to 3 revisits - if this is what is needed to eradicate the pest. You can of course arrange for a private company to undertake treatment for you, details of which are shown in the yellow pages.

If you are on one of the following benefits: Income Support, Council Tax Benefit, Job Seekers Allowance (income based), Housing Benefit or Guaranteed Credit (pensioners), you may be eligible to a free pest control treatment.

The pests that we can treat, whether you are eligible for the free service or you are a fee paying customer, are:

  • Rats
  • Mice
  • Wasps
  • Fleas
  • Cockroaches
  • Bedbugs

Treatment appointments can only be made on a Tuesday or a Thursday. Before we can offer you a free service a benefit check will be carried out, and once the check is positive you will be contacted as soon as possible and a suitable appointment for treatment will be arranged. For fee paying customers, on clearance of your payment you will be contacted as soon as possible and a suitable appointment for treatment will be arranged.

If you have found a pest and don't know what it is, or how to treat it, Environmental Services may be able to identify this for you and provide you with advice on how to treat them.

For more information, please contact Environmental Services by telephone -  01353-665555, or by emailing Customer Services.

Environmental Services have published a number of advice leaflets on common household pests which can be downloaded from the list below.:
