Working at the heart of East Cambridgeshire District Council in the beautiful cathedral city of Ely, this is a superb career opportunity for an astute, forward-thinking planning manager with a demonstrable track record of success.

We’re looking for an individual with the ambition and drive to shape the planning department.

You’ll be joining us at a pivotal time as we embrace the latest technology to transform this already excellent service into one that is digital first, customer-focused and efficient.

Leading a dedicated and diligent team, you’ll bring a blend of strategic oversight, a customer-focused approach and exceptional relationship and operational management to this busy and varied role.

A role which seamlessly meets the demands of rapid housing and commercial growth, responds to the dynamic macro planning environment, navigates government policy changes, and meets the objectives of our Corporate Plan.

You’ll also have the skills and expertise to manage conservation, enforcement and technical support services, ensuring correct procedures are followed, deadlines are met and working practices regularly reviewed.

We’re committed to the delivery of key strategic sites which provide new and affordable homes, commercial premises and supporting infrastructure. We have consistently demonstrated a healthy land supply and are about to commence work on a new future-focused Local Plan.

We need a leader who shares our values. East Cambridgeshire District Council is proud of the pivotal role we play in our local community. Our innovative and agile approach means we’re not afraid to step outside the norm when it comes to delivering sustainable, environmentally friendly and economically driven services that deliver the best for our residents, stakeholders and the environment.

We’re extremely proud of our track record: debt free, environmentally-focused, no increases to council tax for over ten years and a thriving economy.

To be a success in this role you’ll have a degree or its equivalent in Town and Country Planning or a related subject, full RTPI membership, and good working knowledge of planning processes and regulations.

Capable of reading and interpreting plans and technical or legal documents, you’ll have excellent digital skills and be able to lead through example.

With its excellent transport links, beautiful countryside and waterways, thriving markets and friendly communities, it’s no surprise East Cambridgeshire is rated one of the happiest and healthiest places to live in the UK.

If you believe you have the expertise, skills and vision we are looking for and want to enjoy all East Cambridgeshire has to offer, we’d like to hear from you.

If you are looking to work for an organisation that prioritises environmental sustainability, the Council has made a clear commitment to operate in a responsible and sustainable manner and has recently been awarded the silver accreditation of the Investors in the Environment scheme.

Interviews will be held: W/C 27th May 2024

In return, the Council offers a range of benefits including:

  • flexible working
  • generous annual leave allowance starting at 24 days per year
  • childcare scheme (in approved cases)
  • occupational health programme
  • training and development
  • essential car user allowance
  • holiday, sickness and salary pension scheme entitlements

The Council is an equal opportunities employer.
