Ely Markets are once again backing a national campaign to encourage more people to use their local markets and help new traders.

‘Love Your Local Markets’ is a national event which runs from 15 to 29 May and is being celebrated in Ely with a special promotional stall on the Craft and Collectables Market on Saturday 18 May.

Visitors will be able to get learn about Ely’s markets and receive details of how people can become a trader regardless of their age or experience.

There will also be the chance to enter a competition to win vouchers worth £20 to spend on the Market if you register to receive updates on Ely Markets.

Councillor Richard Hobbs, Chairman of the Community and Environment Committee, said: "Ely’s Markets are a thriving part of our community. They have grown and developed into something which people care for, love and adore. The ‘Love Your Local Markets’ is all about sharing this success and giving potential stall holders the opportunity to ask what they need to do to become a trader.

"We should rightly celebrate the success and huge variety of all our markets for that is what makes them successful. Not only do people come to Ely for some of the best produce available in the East of England, we have seen traders who started on our Markets growing to become successful businesses. So come along to see Ely’s Market Place this weekend, I guarantee see some amazing produce and you might just find yourself at the start of a new career."

As well as the fortnightly award-winning Farmers’ Markets, Ely also boasts a regular Craft & Collectables Market every Saturday for a great variety of arts, crafts and antiques as well as the traditional General Market every Thursday and the speciality Flower, Food & Craft Market on the last Sunday of every month and Bank Holiday Mondays.
