East Cambridgeshire District Council has ambitious plans for a new Local Authority Trading Company (LATC) and is seeking a forward thinking and dynamic leader to become the Company’s Chairman.

The LATC is a key part of the development of a more commercial approach at the Council as the authority looks at alternative ways of generating income to mitigate loss of Local Government funding from Westminster.

The role of Chairman of the LATC will be instrumental in the way the new organisation will function.  Prospective candidates should be able to provide leadership, strategic vision and ensure the board has an independent and authoritative identity.

With the new organisation looking to develop the Council’s current assets, support Community Land Trusts in the district and develop more services commercially, the following skill sets are required:

•    a track record of providing leadership successfully at a strategic level
•    a strong track record of innovation and seizing commercial opportunities
•    a broad understanding of public and private sector organisations and finance

John Hill, Chief Executive at East Cambridgeshire District Council, said: “We are making real progress with setting up the Local Authority Trading Company (LATC) as we look to take a more commercial approach at the Council. The Company has the potential to make a real positive impact on the way we operate and fund services. This is why having a strong, independent Chairman of the LATC Board is vital to the success of our plans. We are looking for a candidate who can not only bring strategic leadership and innovation but also has a broad knowledge of the public and private sector.”
