Following a motion made at East Cambridgeshire District Council’s most recent Full Council meeting, the Council has confirmed its support for the proposed reclassification of the A1123 and A1421.

The proposals, which are currently being consulted on by Cambridgeshire County Council, would see the two ‘A’ roads in the district reclassified to ‘B’ roads.

Councillor Bill Hunt, who proposed this motion, said:

“I am incredibly pleased that the Council approved the motion to put on record its support for the reclassification of these roads and I’m glad to have been supported and seconded by Councillor Dan Schumann.

“I am passionate about improving the local area for local people and the reclassification will bring major advantages for villages in East Cambridgeshire such as Haddenham, Stretham, Wicken and Wilburton.

“Not only will this improve the air quality and congestion consistent with the Council’s pre-existing Climate Change Strategy, but it will reduce the occurrence of pedestrian and cyclist injuries which is something that has become far too common on these roads.”
