Ely Country Park is set to be a hive of activity this month as new equipment is installed so children of all ages and abilities can have even more fun.

The work follows a consultation with local families, children and users of the park which asked them what equipment and facilities they would like to see added to the area.

This feedback has been used to help the District Council identify which pieces should be added, including:

  • New play equipment for toddlers
  • A new outdoor fitness trail for older children
  • An accessible trampoline and roundabout
  • New picnic tables with windbreaks and shelter as well as wheelchair accessible seating
  • New cycle parking
  • The work is being carried out by Wicksteed Playscapes and should be completed by 28 April 2014.

Allison Conder, Principal Community and Leisure Services Officer, said: "The Country Park has developed a lot over the last couple of years to become a place for people to enjoy whether they are playing, walking or enjoying nature. The new equipment has been carefully designed so it fits in with the park’s setting and fits the needs of the people who use the area most. So we have new things for children of all ages as well as more places for people to sit and picnic. We hope the new facilities at the Park will make it an even better place to spend your time.”

The work to enhance the Country Park is funded entirely by developer funding as a result of the building of the Sainsbury’s store.

The Country Park is evolving through East Cambridgeshire District Council working in partnership with a number of local interest groups.
