To help kick start the ‘Clean for The Queen’ campaign, East Cambridgeshire District Council is offering residents the chance to borrow the tools to take on the trash.

Clean for The Queen is a campaign to clear up Britain in time for Her Majesty the Queen's 90th birthday, which will be officially celebrated later in June this year.

You can start now and also take part in the Clean for The Queen weekend on the 4th, 5th and 6th of March.

East Cambridgeshire District Council is already supporting two community litter pick events that weekend, but do still have some spare equipment if further groups wish to contact them.

The Council is able to supply litter pickers, gloves, hi-vis vests and sacks, and they will also be disposing of the collected waste, which will be removed from agreed collection points after the event.

When The Queen came to the throne, litter was not the problem that it is today. Food packaging, plastic bottles, takeaway meals and cigarette butts have all contributed to a growing menace that affects our wildlife, streets, countryside and sense of pride.

With the joint participation of individuals, volunteer groups, local councils, businesses and schools, this campaign is a wonderful opportunity to show the District’s gratitude to Her Majesty for her sixty-four years of service.  It also offers an opportunity for residents to work together to make their communities safer, cleaner and generally better places to live.
