To make it easier for residents to recycle their waste in East Cambridgeshire, new recycling points and banks are being introduced.
Along with a new site in Littleport to recycle glass and plastic, the District Council has reintroduced Tetrapak carton banks at the following locations:
- Tesco Recycling Centre, Angel Drove, Ely.
- Waitrose Recycling Centre, Brays Lane, Ely.
- Tan House Lane, Reach Road, Burwell.
- Littleport Sports & Social Club, Camel Lane, Littleport.
A fifth site is currently being arranged for residents in and around Soham.
New plastic bottle banks have also been placed at the following locations after requests from residents:
- Ashley Village Hall, High Street, Ashley
- Coates Drove, Isleham.
Residents can also now recycle Batteries and Printer Cartridges in the foyer of the District Council offices at Nutholt Lane in Ely.
Cllr David Brown, who is lead member for waste and recycling at East Cambridgeshire District Council, said: "We had to make the very difficult decision earlier in the year to withdraw the kerbside plastic bottle collection. It has been really encouraging that residents have heeded the message to recycle plastic bottles through recycling banks. Following feedback from residents, we have also brought in new recycling sites and reintroduced Tetrapak recycling banks after working with Tetrapak to allow residents to recycle these once again.
“As our waste review continues, we will look closer at the how we can develop a system which meets the needs of our residents and in the meantime we will continue to offer service improvements where we can.”
