Over 100 responses have come in to the District Council about the proposals to introduce car parking charges since the consultation opened earlier this month.
There is still plenty of time for anyone who wants to comment on the proposals either online at www.eastcambs.gov.uk, via email: parking@eastcambs.gov.uk or through a leaflet before the consultations closes on 31 January 2012.
A number of proposals are already out for public consultation which look at the various options of annual permits and pay and display tickets.
In addition to these ideas and others detailed in the consultation papers, Members at Strategic Policy and Resources Committee have also asked officers to include an additional proposal as part of the consultation:
• the introduction for short stay of a non-transferable £1 pay and display daily ticket and for long stay (£1 for the first two hours with £1 per hour thereafter up to a maximum of £5)
This has now been included in the online questionnaire and paper copies available throughout the district from Friday 2 December. Anyone who has already commented on the consultation is welcomed and encouraged to feedback on this additional idea.
Councillor Peter Moakes, Chairman of Development and Transport sub committee at East Cambridgeshire District Council, said: “Over the last couple of weeks, two Committees at the Council have fed back suggestions to the consultation which we felt we needed be taken into consideration. We apologise for any confusion or inconvenience this may cause but we felt it was important to include this idea as part of the consultation so we could give all options to the public.
“In order to have the freedom to review any future car parking model, members also asked to remove the guarantee on all charges up to 2015. It is important to stress this does not mean decisions have been taken on the car park charging model we have chosen and for the remaining eight weeks of public consultation there will no additional proposals.
“We have had a good response to the car parking consultation so far but there is still plenty of time to feed back your thoughts and opinions. The important thing is to make sure you have your say – we have promised to listen so please take time to let us know what you think.”
