Sports coaches and volunteers in East Cambridgeshire are being given the chance to develop their skills on specially organised accredited training courses.

The District Council and Living Sport are working in partnership to provide two accredited courses: Safeguarding and Child Protection (UKCC) and Emergency First Aid (HSE) in January and February next year.

The costs of the courses - £20 for Safeguarding and Child Protection and £30 for the First Aid - have been subsidised by East Cambridgeshire District Council as part of the authority’s commitment to support grassroots sport.

The sessions will be held at Witchford Village College and Monday nights from 27 January till 10 February.

Councillor Richard Hobbs, Chairman of the Community and Environment Committee at East Cambridgeshire District Council, said: “The array of opportunities to get involved in sport at all ages is vast but this is only possible because of the commitment of volunteers giving up so much of their spare time. To help these people to achieve their ambitions of developing their clubs and ensuring they have the necessary skills, we have organised with Living Sport two accredited courses. By working together and subsidising the cost of the sessions, we hope we can support those working at the grassroots of sport who give so much to their communities.”
