From today (Tuesday 1 October), a number of changes have been introduced to car parks in Ely to assist those people looking to shop, visit or work in the city.

The adjustments include:

  • The lower section of Forehill car park will become long-stay subject to the early morning restrictions.
  • Fisherman’s car park will have early morning restrictions running from Monday to Friday excluding Saturday and Sunday.
  • The regulations on all car parks will now start at 8:00am instead of 8:30am.
  • The District Council will no longer operate Brays Lane car park which will now be in the control of Waitrose.

The changes have been introduced following a consultation on the car park orders earlier this year.

Tracey Harding, Tourism & Town Centres Team Leader at East Cambridgeshire District Council, said: "The adjustments we have made to the car parking orders are in response to feedback we have had from the public to help improve how our car parks manage the demand placed on them. By introducing more long stay car parking and revising some of the early morning restrictions we hope to meet the needs of those people wanting to use our facilities.

"Over the years, we have also patrolled Bray's Lane car park as part of an agreement we had with Waitrose. Given the store owns and maintains this facility, it seemed logical for the store to operate the car park when they approached us to take full control of the facility. We will continue to monitor how our car parks are used throughout Ely to see if further adjustments are required in the future."
