Tree Warden Scheme

East Cambridgeshire District Council participates in the Tree Council's national Tree Warden Scheme. The scheme enables volunteers, nominated by the Parish Council, to play an active role in conserving and enhancing their local trees and woodland.

Some works to protected trees do not need to follow normal procedures; the most common being works to or the removal of dead, dying or dangerous trees.

Tree Works Applications

Anyone wishing to carry out works to protected trees, in a conservation area must apply in writing to the Council, giving them a minimum of 6 weeks' notice. When applying to carry out works to a TPO tree a formal application must be made to the Council and a decision will be made within the statutory 8 weeks' timeframe as to whether the works are acceptable or not.

Tree Preservation Orders

A Tree Preservation Order (TPO) is an order made by a Local Planning Authority in England to protect specific trees, groups of trees or woodlands in the interests of amenity which makes it a criminal offence to cut down, prune, uproot, wilfully damage or destroy a tree (including its roots) without written consent from the Local Planning Authority.
