Recycling Collections

The Council is aiming to supply every household in the district with a recycling collection from the kerbside. We will supply you with a black box and brown bags, for the collection of your recycling.

Your black box will be collected every fortnight. Find out when your recycling collection day is. Please bring your containers back in as soon as possible after they have been emptied, to avoid causing obstruction on the pavement.

We currently collect glass, tins, cans, paper and aerosol cans from the kerbside. The items should be loose in the box and plastic bags should not be tied.

Please include:

Inside your black box

  • paper
  • newspapers
  • magazines
  • junk mail
  • white paper and white envelopes
  • telephone directories
  • cardboard can be flattened and bundled and placed out for collection beside your box

In a separate carrier bag

  • glass
  • clean glass bottles and jars - all colours

In an additional carrier bag

  • clean food and drink cans - squashed if possible
  • empty aerosol cans - not squashed
  • biscuit and sweet tins

Please don't include:

  • broken glass
  • window glass or Pyrex
  • egg boxes
  • milk and juice cartons
  • plastics
  • carrier bags
  • paint cans
  • motor oil containers
  • hypodermic needles
  • brown envelopes
  • brown paper
  • crisp packets
  • plastic 'foil' pouches, eg from pet food

What happens to your recycling?

All of the recycling collected by the kerbside service or through the recycling banks goes to different companies in the UK.

(Please note the Clothing Banks belonging to a company called Clothes Aid are NOT supported by the Council).
Please note that although most materials are reprocessed in the UK some (especially textiles) may go overseas for reprocessing.

Black boxes are currently limited to one per property.  Additional materals can be placed in carrier bags and left on top of or next to the box.  Please keep paper, glass and cans in separate bags.

If your box has been stolen or damaged please complete this online form.  A replacement box should be delivered within 5 working days of your report.  If you have a damaged box, please leave it out for Veolia to collect when they deliver the replacement box.

If you have just moved into the area, or are about to move into the area, you can request a new customer pack from Veolia.  This will include a black recycling box, green waste recycling bags and a recycling and collections calendar.  Your welcome pack will be delivered within 5 working days of your request, or within 5 working days of your moving date.  To request a new customer pack, please complete this online form.
