Environmental Services Department
The Environmental Health Department is responsible for a diverse range of activities. It is our role to ensure that our air is clear and unpolluted, the streets are clean, our drinking water is sparkling and that we live in housing suitable for our needs.
The department is run by the Head of Environmental Services & Housing, with a team of 16 professional officers and its supporting administrative staff. The department is split into two teams dealing with different key functions and these are the domestic and commercial teams. We also have other specialist functions such as the Dog Warden, Travellers’ Liaison Officer and the Home Energy Conservation Officer.
Almost everything we do is required by Government Regulation, whether providing recycling facilities or ensuring that the kitchens of our district’s restaurants comply with the standards laid down by law.
Our task is to ensure that everyone complies with regulations. Our preferred approach is to provide advice and education, however, if necessary we will prosecute those who flout the law.
We are one of the healthiest, cleanest areas in Britain and that is the way would like to remain. By working with the residents and businesses of East Cambridgeshire we can do it.

Domestic Team
A large amount of the team's time is spent investigating complaints from the public. They receive around 1,500 of these each year and they can range from noisy neighbours to abandoned vehicles.
The team also provide grants to enable the elderly and disabled to adapt their homes with aids such as ramps or special showers.
