Development Services Department

The Development Services Directorate is a broad service charged with capturing and regulating the various activities and procedures involved in the development process, ranging from strategic policy formulation and monitoring through determining a range of planning, building control and related applications, to the enforcement of planning regulations and action on unauthorised development. Building conservation interests, landscaping and transport development are also delivered under this umbrella. The Service operates within a context of national and local statutory guidance and seeks to respond positively to the needs and aspirations of the local community, including residents and businesses, whilst protecting and enhancing the physical and visual character and amenity of the environment.

Local & Forward Planning Service

The Forward Planning team is responsible for:

• Representing the Councils interests in local, regional and national planning policy matters.
• Preparing a Local Development Framework in line with the Government's changes to the Planning System.
• Preparing Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs)
• Monitoring and reviewing planning policies, including preparation of annual monitoring reports, residential and employment land availability studies.

Economic Development

Our Economic Development Service helps to develop business in East Cambridgeshire by ensuring that that specialist agencies provide support; helping to attract grants from UK or European Services; and developing initiatives to enable people to start their own businesses.

We also encourage local firms to invest in training. By setting up business training centres in community colleges we aim to provide quality training opportunities.
