Legal Services Department
The Legal & Democratic Services Department is responsible for a whole range of activities, from the Council’s Constitution to electoral registration and elections, from land charges and licensing to committee meetings. It is the Department’s role to ensure that all business transacted by the Council and its Committees is open, transparent and legal. This means that the democratic processes involved, e.g. elections and Committee decisions, conform to the relevant statutory requirements and are conducted in a fair and lawful way.
Human Resources & Information Technology Department
The Human Resources and Information Technology Department is responsible for all issues relating to staffing and training and for managing information and technology within the Council, and is responsible for open spaces maintenance, management of the Council’s office and emergency planning.
Environmental Services Department
The Environmental Health Department is responsible for a diverse range of activities. It is our role to ensure that our air is clear and unpolluted, the streets are clean, our drinking water is sparkling and that we live in housing suitable for our needs.
Development Services Department
The Development Services Directorate is a broad service charged with capturing and regulating the various activities and procedures involved in the development process, ranging from strategic policy formulation and monitoring through determining a range of planning, building control and related applications, to the enforcement of planning regulations and action on unauthorised development. Building conservation interests, landscaping and transport development are also delivered under this umbrella.
