Welcome to the East Cambridgeshire Summer of Celebration 2012!  With the Diamond Jubilee and the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games almost upon us, there is plenty to celebrate in 2012.

These pages provide information and advice for community groups and organisations wishing to host an event embracing the festivities.

Why get involved ...

London 2012 is an ideal opportunity for East Cambs to reach new audiences and forge new partnerships, alongside inviting new ways to sustainably develop sport, tourism, the arts and culture.

The Olympic Games and London 2012 brands are recognised by the masses therefore enhancing local marking and communications campaign via the promotion of this global image.  London 2012 will raise the profile of sport, culture, the arts and tourism overall for East Cambs, therefore increasing the overall standard of amenities and facilities catering for residents of the district.

Diamond Jubilee

To mark 60 years of the Queen's reign the Diamond Jubilee will take place in 2012.  The celebrations will center around an extended weekend in 2012 on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th June.  There will be a special bank holiday for the Diamond Jubilee.  The 2012 late May bank holiday will be moved to Monday 4th June 2012 and an additional Jubilee bank holiday will be on Tuesday 5th June 2012.

London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games

London 2012 is an ideal opportunity for East Cambs to reach new audiences and forge new partnerships, alongside inviting new ways to sustainably develop sport, tourism, the arts and culture.

London 2012 will raise the profile of sport, culture, the arts and tourism overall for East Cambs, and help increase levels of activity.  The focus will be on the UK throughout the year, specifically during June 21 - September 9 2012, when Festival 2012 will be taking place, with the Official Opening Ceremony taking place on the 27th July 2012.  It is your opportunity to Welcome the World to East Cambridgeshire.  A whole host of events will be taking place nationwide during this period so its a great opportunity to get involved.

Building a Legacy

London 2012 will leave a powerful cultural legacy across the UK including East Cambridgeshire and create a buzz that will last long after the closing ceremony on the 9th September 2012.  After London 2012 there will be a new awareness of cultural activity; with new ways for people to get involved, new projects to get involved in, more people taking part in cultural activity within their local community, and new partnerships in the cultural sector and around the district.
