Wicken
Late C18 or early C19 twelve sided smock mill.
Timber framed and double weather boarded on a two storey brick sill, tarred. Five storeys with restored ogee capping of metal sheeting with ball finial.
Although the sails and fantail have been removed much of the original machinery including the wind and main shafts, the wallower and spur wheel are intact.
Clunch and flint with Barnack dressings. Tiled roofs. West tower of three stages with embattled parapet, the corners with panelled pinnacles surmounted by pyramidal finials. Three stage buttressing and a newel staircase in south east corner. Nave with C15 clerestorey, each side having three windows of two trefoil lights.
Red brick with yellow gault brick dressings and slate roof of fishscale pattern slates. Single storey with end gables and a larger centre gable, each with original iron casements with diamond panes. Two entries in arched heads.
In c1760 the facade was remodelled and gable ends partly rebuilt.Timber framed, plaster rendered on a clunch sill. The west gable end is of narrow red brick, part English bond on a high sill of clunch with one corner block with a masonry joint. The upper courses of this wall were rebuilt in c1760 in yellow gault brick. The roof is steeply pitched, plain tiled with c1760 gable end parapets on kneelers.
Timber framed, plaster rendered with steeply pitched roof, originally thatched, now with corrugated iron, and a ridge stack. One storey and attic. Two C19 dormers. Three casements and a doorway on site of original entry to cross passage.
At the same time the bay to the left hand was added. Timber framed, cased in brick in C20 with steeply pitched roof originally thatched with reed. End parapet and ridge stack. One storey and attics. Two dormers, three windows all C20 and two doorways, one to lobby entry and other to a service bay at low end of hall. C18 additions and rebuild of yellow gault brick.
Barnack limestone. Chamfered stump with broach stops, on an octagonal base with square plinth with moulded corners, and recessed panel to each side with a shield of arms.
In late C16 or early C17 the parlour end was rebuilt as a cross wing and at the same time the chimney stack was inserted into the through passage and the open hall was floored. Timber framed, part plaster rendered with a thatched roof of reed and a rebuilt ridge stack. One storey and attic. Two gabled dormers and two casements, all C20. The doorway to the lobby entry has a late C17 or early C18 door of two panels.
Ground floor walls are timber framed, plaster rendered on a brick sill. Tiled roof with gault brick ridge stack. Two storeys with the line of the original eaves visible between the storeys. Four windows and door, all C20, though the doorway may be on the site of the original through passage.
