Kirtling
Gatehouse c1530 built for Lord North c1496 - 1564. House rebuilt c1872, architect J A Hansom, 1803-1882. Red brick with black diaper brick patterning, limestone dressings. Flat leaded roof to tower, steeply pitched slate roofs to house with gable parapet to east. Gatehouse, three storeys with main south entrance blocked and ground floor incorporated into plan of C19 house.
Parish church. C12 nave wall to south west with quoin and window, south arcade of three bays, and fine south doorway.
Chancel early C13 with blocked lancet windows. C15 tower, north arcade and aisle, transept chapel and south aisle. North aisle rebuilt 1982, south aisle has C18 windows. North memorial chapel mid C16. Flint and pebble rubble with limestone and clunch dressings. External walls partly plastered. Red brick chapel. Plain tile roofs and pantile aisle roofs.
Church built 1877 for Lord North, architect C A Buckler.
Flint with limestone dressings; plain tile roofs. Romanesque, apsidal north end, bell turret to buttressed south end, gabled west porch with two centred arched entrance and double boarded doors, aisle and vestry to east.
Four lancet windows in west elevation; three lancet windows in south with stained glass c1530 removed from house chapel of Kirtling Hall 1904. Marble and limestone reredos and altar, patterned floor tiles.
Cottage. Late C17.
Timber framed and plastered. Thatched roof; red brick ridge stack. One storey and attic, three unit plan. One gabled casement window, three ground floor casement windows with glazing bars. Two half glazed doors.
Interior has exposed floor frames
Barn. Late C16.
Timber framed and weatherboarded with thatched roof half hipped to right hand. Four bays,aisled with boarded doors in double entry facing north east. Edge halved scarf joints in arcade plates
Small barn. C17.
Timber framed and plastered, part weatherboarded. Thatched roof of two levels; stack to north east. Two windows with glazing bars and three boarded doors in south east elevation.
Farmhouse C16 and late C17.
Timber framed and plastered with pargeted panels. Plain tile roofs, red brick central ridge stack and rear stack. Two storeys and attics with lower rear wing original three unit plan building rebuilt in C17. Symmetrical facade to south west with two first floor and two ground floor flush framed twelve paned hung sash windows. Central double doors C19, with wooden architrave with segmental pediment. Reused C18 four panelled door to rear.
Interior has exposed wall and floor frames. Inglenook hearths. Some C18 doors.
Farmhouse. C16 with late C17 extension to east.
Timber framed with pargeted plastered panels. Thatched roofs. Two red brick ridge stacks. Two storeys, and one storey and attic. L-plan. Original farmhouse three unit plan, with lobby entry two unit plan extension. Two first floor, and two ground floor C19 sixteen paned hung sash windows and four panelled door. Boarded door, casement window, and gabled dormer window in C16 range.
Interior. Stop chamfered ceiling beams, inglenook hearths, one with baking oven and two sealed.
Farmhouse. Late C16 cross wing, C17 main range to south west replacing earlier hall.
Timber framed and plastered. Hipped pantile roof. Red brick ridge stack and large lateral stack to cross wing concealed by C19 painted brick and slated roofed dairy. Two storeys with attics. Three first floor and three ground floor casement windows. Panelled door in lobby entry position to right hand and door in modern porch to left hand.
Cottage, mid to late C16 and C19 gable extension.
Timber framed and plastered. Thatched roof. Red brick ridge stack rebuilt. Flint with brick dressings. One storey and attic, original three unit plan with addition to left hand. Two casement dormer windows, three ground floor casement windows and boarded door.
Interior. Inglenook hearth, with exposed wall frames and floor frames.
