Time to refresh postal vote information
Anyone who has voted by post from more than five years is being reminded that they must provide updated details.
In East Cambridgeshire, the District Council has written to all residents who have had a postal, proxy or postal proxy since January 2007. The letter reminds them that they are required to submit a fresh specimen signature by 12 March 2012.
Will we be Farmers Market of the Year?
Ely Farmers’ Market has again been shortlisted as a finalist for the ‘Farmers' Market of the Year Award 2012’ by the National Farmers’ Retail & Markets Association (FARMA) Annual awards.
Established in July 2000, the Farmers’ market sees thousands of shoppers visit every 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month to the pick up some of the best food and produce in the region.
Setting a prudent budget for the future
After three years of savings, redundancies and cuts to grants, East Cambridgeshire District Council is proposing no new reductions for the next financial year.
The authority is in the middle of a four year financial strategy which was approved last year to save over £2 million pounds by 2015.
This followed cuts of nearly 29 per cent to the Council’s main Government Grant for 2011/12 and 2012/13 without Ministers indicating what will happen over the longer term.

King's Ely Concert Society : Richard Uttley pianist - 20th January 2012
Richard Uttley, one of the leading pianists of his generation, makes a return visit to Ely on Friday 20 January as guest of King’s Concert Society.
Winner of the 2010 Haverhill Sinfonia Soloist Competition, he made his first visit to the city in 2008.
Since then he has appeared at the Royal Festival Hall, Wigmore Hall and the Purcell Room in London and also recorded for BBC Radio 3.

The Quaker Tapestry Roadshow - February 2012
The Quaker Tapestry Roadshow has already travelled to more than 150 venues in the UK, Europe, and America during the last 20 years, but this is the first time it has visited Ely. The tapestry exhibition in the cathedral’s Lady Chapel runs from January 31 to February 29; it will also include a film, audio guides, children’s activities, gift shop and opportunities to see embroiderers working.
Cost:Free event but please use the North Door of the Catheral for this event.
Opening times are 10am to 4pm, Monday to Saturday. Closed on Sundays!
